ROTHERHAM 7.9.2002

Well the week before the show was a bad one for your favourite reporter, some nice person stole my fishing tackle on the Wednesday. So as you can imagine the show didn't look too promising, but with a stiff upper lip off we went.
We arrived, one of the first. The steward on the entrance told us that once we had unloaded we had to move from the front of the tent and to park just over the foot path, I asked if we could stay there because of being disabled, He responded by pointing to the disabled parking places by the exit approx 1\4 of a mile away. Then the penny dropped and he said leave it by the tent!
If any of you can remember the Golcar show, no not the mud, the tables & chairs. We had none again. We started to move trestles and tops from the Rabbit section as they would not need them till Sunday. We then realised we needed three proper tables for the two judges and show sec. I then approached the caged bird fancy to ask if they would allow us to manually swap three tables. I was told abruptly that we could not as he had got these tables himself. Sandra, Ken & I discussed what to do, they told me to go to the control tent. When there I was told that we should have the amount of tables & chairs we had asked for, so I arranged for some to be brought to the tent with the green & yellow roof.
Then from the next tent came Mr Stroppie throwing his weight about, but if any of you have seen this roving reporter, Mr Stroppie would have needed a lot more weight to match yours truly.
Our judges finally got under way and the show was on. People packed into our tent then Sandra said in a loud voice "You can put that back" "You know what I mean". The thief dropped the takings and ran out of our tent. Sandra had moved the moneys off the table and on to the floor, but he had crawled under the table to grab the takings.
So the moral to this story is be security minded and be willing to sleep in the tent Friday Night to stop bird caging people pinching your tables & chairs. So I will leave you till next month

Your Roving Reporter Barry.
