Over the years we have been asked to re-home hamsters for various reasons by people living in our local area.
A little while ago we were approached by our local branch of the R.S.P.C.A. to ask if we could help in re-homing a hamster. We gladly helped as one more to us did not make too much of a difference. Whilst talking to the R.S.P.C.A. we found out that most branches do not have facilities to house small rodents. We therefore offered to have our name and telephone number added to their national list.
Since this time we have had many calls from all parts of the UK asking for information and lots of requests to re-home hamsters. In most case we have been able to help in the re-homing if we could get the hamster to us .
Why do hamsters need to be re-homed?
There are many reasons for this but among the commonest are:-
1.They have bought a hamster and a few days later it has had babies. These they cannot keep and cannot find homes for. Can we Help?
2. The owners circumstances have changed (move to a flat where pets are not allowed) and must find a new home for their hamster.
3. The child has lost interest in the animal and the parents think it would be best if a home could be found that would lavish it with love and care.
4. The hamster is cannot be handled as it is "vicious". In most of these cases it turns out that after a day or two with us the hamster just needed some concentrated handling. These have normally made excellent pets.
There are obviously many more reasons why we get requests from the public and we are only too willing to help.
The problem we are now encountering is that we are getting requests from all parts of the UK, some of which we cannot, unfortunately, manage to pick up the hamster.
We have, therefore, decided to start a National Rescued Hamster List . This would be a list of people who could take in a hamster on a temporary basis. The hamster could then be taken to the next hamster show near the "rescuer" and then through a network of exhibitors, transport it back to us for re-homing. In the past sometimes the re-homing has occurred before it reaches us.
Eventually when we receive a call about a hamster I can give out the telephone number of a person nearest so that local arrangements can be made. It would be stressed to the caller that we could not guarantee that the person whose telephone number we give could take the hamster.
If you would be willing to go on this list please Email me your name, Home Town and telephone number. If you are unsure, please contact me for more information.

We would appreciate any help we can get.
Should you feel that you might be interested in taking one of these "rescued" hamsters you too could be included in the list. Please state whether you could re-home a hamster or help in the transportation.
We would like to thank anyone who has read all of this page and hope that we have raised the publics knowledge in the efforts we (The Whole Hamster Fancy) make to ensure that hamsters have good homes.
